Mission #2
Location: Pawnee National Grasslands Colorado (North Site)
Date: 27 May 2007
Mission: Test experimental wimpy Red “O” motor
Rocket name: uprOar
Mission Profile: Stunt monkey to ride uprOar to an estimated altitude of 14,000′ AGL with main chute deployment to be set for 2500′. Stunt Monkey located in main parachute bay just behind nosecone.
Mission results: An unfortunate ride for Capt. Danger. The “O” 5300 over pressurized at an estimated 1400′AGL and caused the premature deployment of all the recovery systems including the stunt monkey while under thrust. The speed of uprOar was estimated to be in the range of 600 miles per hour at the moment of deployment. The vehicle was a complete loss, no useful components survived except some shock cord, and the altimeter. Capt. Danger somehow escaped total destruction; however his parachute was badly torn, thus causing him to land rather roughly on the prairie floor.
Capt. Danger spend months in therapy for both physical and psychological damage.
Mission Status: Failure. Cato. Bucket recovery. After extensive hearings Capt. Danger was absolved of all responsibility for this incident.
